For Barney & Evelyn Santos
Montebello Live · A civic-cultural companion for BLVD MRKT

Subject · Montebello Live and BLVD MRKT Companion
Dear Barney and Evelyn,
I hope you are both doing well.
I wanted to share something with you personally and with a great deal of respect.
I have known you for some years now, and I have always been inspired by the work you have done through BLVD MRKT. When I was a student at Cal State LA, I remember Barney presenting to one of our business classes and sharing the concept for what would become BLVD MRKT. That moment stayed with me because it was not just a business idea. It was a vision for community, culture, food, and place.
Over the years, you have also been generous in bringing us in to perform, and I have had some incredible family moments at BLVD MRKT. I have celebrated family milestones there, gathered with loved ones at the long tables, and experienced the space not just as a venue, but as a place where people come together.
I am also a graduate of Montebello High School, Class of 2006, so I feel a deep personal connection to Montebello and to the possibility of what this next chapter can become.
As I have been building VibePass and supporting civic facing partners, museums, music festivals, cultural organizations, and brands, I kept thinking about the work you have already built and the potential for BLVD MRKT and Montebello Live to have a digital companion that matches the care, culture, and energy of the physical space.
I began working on this quietly because I saw a real opportunity to create something meaningful. I wanted to share it with you in that same spirit of respect and gratitude. I believe there is strong potential to form a partnership around this, and I would love the opportunity to walk you through what we have been building.
The Montebello Live Companion is designed as a mobile first cultural tool for BLVD MRKT and the surrounding Whittier Boulevard experience. It is not just a website or event page. It is a digital layer that helps people discover what is happening, explore vendors, navigate the space, plan visits, invite friends, capture memories, and feel more connected to the place.
Some of the core features include a live map that highlights BLVD MRKT and Whittier Boulevard, a floating navigation rail that acts like a movable control system, smart open and closed messaging based on the day and time, vendor discovery, event listings, multilingual access, and planning tools that let people save a visit or invite others.
We are also building participation features like a modular Photo Booth and Memory Studio. The Photo Booth would allow visitors to capture a branded Montebello Live moment using custom frames tied to BLVD MRKT, events, music nights, markets, and community celebrations. The Memory Studio would allow people to leave short reflections, voice notes, or written memories about BLVD MRKT, Montebello, Whittier Boulevard, or what brought them there that day.
The goal is to create something useful, beautiful, and culturally grounded. Something that helps visitors know what is happening, helps vendors and programming become more visible, and gives the community a way to participate and remember the moments they experience there.
I am sharing this because I care about the work you have built, and I believe this could become a strong extension of the vision already behind BLVD MRKT and Montebello Live.
If you are open to it, I would love to schedule time to show you the companion, walk through the thinking, and explore whether there is a way to partner on bringing it forward in a thoughtful way.
With gratitude and respect,
Guillermo Tejeda

“The companion shouldn't compete with the night.
It should make the night easier to enter.”
Why this matters now
06 / 19
520 Whittier
A boulevard with a brand that has waited a hundred years for this version of itself.
Demographic truth
Montebello is one of LA's most multilingual zip codes. Every existing 'city app' assumes English.
Cultural moment
Civic-cultural venues are how cities tell themselves the next story. BLVD MRKT is doing this for the SGV.

What's next · If we build together

Boulevard-wide rollout
Extend the companion past BLVD MRKT to the rest of the Whittier corridor, vendors, murals, music, history, without losing the editorial voice.
Vendor cockpit
Self-serve hours, menus, and event drops so vendors update once and the companion + signage + maps all update with them.
Civic partnerships
City of Montebello, Metro, and LA County cultural affairs as distribution partners, the companion as the official multilingual face of the corridor.
The model for the next ten cities
Long Beach, Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights. BLVD MRKT becomes the prototype civic-cultural venue. Montebello Live becomes the playbook.
A tourism tool · For the City of Montebello
10 / 19
Montebello Live is built as a place-based tourism and discovery tool. It helps visitors and residents find BLVD MRKT, walk Whittier Boulevard, support local businesses, and step into the cultural events, food, music, and public programming that already make this city distinct.
The same companion can extend beyond BLVD MRKT into a citywide cultural discovery layer, other organizations, restaurants, venues, festivals, civic partners, and the businesses connected through the Montebello Chamber of Commerce.
Where to go
BLVD MRKT, Whittier Boulevard, murals, music nights, family days, and the streets that carry the story.
What to do
Live events, vendor menus, seasonal markets, lowrider days, and community celebrations, surfaced in eleven languages.
Who to support
Local businesses and Chamber of Commerce members spotlighted as part of the daily experience, not buried in a directory.
How to participate
Memory Studio, Photo Booth, guided trails, and shareable plans that turn a visit into a contribution.
Montebello Live can become the digital front door for the city, helping people explore where to go, what to do, who to support, and how to participate.
A new sponsorship · And revenue lane
11 / 19
The companion creates a new lane for sponsorship, digital engagement, and partner visibility, modular surfaces that sit naturally inside the live experience instead of interrupting it.
Sponsored map placements
Sponsored event cards
Sponsored Photo Booth frames
Branded Memory Studio prompts
Gamified trails and badges
Chamber business spotlights
Vendor promotions
Community partner activations
Seasonal campaigns
Digital storytelling packages
These systems are being pioneered by VibePass™ Technologies as modular engagement tools that turn attendance into participation, starting with BLVD MRKT, then extending across Montebello with local businesses, civic partners, cultural organizations, and the Chamber of Commerce.
The companion is not just informational. It creates new digital surfaces where sponsors, businesses, and cultural partners can be meaningfully integrated into the live experience.
